Basic Life Support, or BLS, refers to a set of lifesaving procedures and protocols that provide critical care to patients experiencing cardiac arrest or other medical emergencies. The goal of BLS certification is to restore spontaneous breathing and circulation until more advanced medical help arrives.

The BLS for Healthcare Providers course teaches medical professionals how to recognize respiratory and cardiac emergencies, perform high-quality chest compressions, deliver rescue breaths, operate an automated external defibrillator (AED), and coordinate with members of a resuscitation team.
